“Home is where we feel validated and appreciated - and where the soul comes alive.”
Tell Your Story of Home is an exploration of where we feel at home, who we are and what we value. In this journal-writing class, we will explore places that have shaped us and what home means for each of us. Through writing prompts we will create our own portrait of home as sanctuary. And there will be ample time for sharing and discussion.
Home transcends space---it can be found in a person, an experience, a love of beauty, the pursuit of a passion. It is shorthand for finding out where we belong, for discovering our sense of tribe and community. We’ll consider what home means to each of us on an inner level.
But we’ll also explore the role of home in a changing society. Our sense of place is shifting due to global warming, economic uncertainty, and divisive politics. How does home provide an anchor in uncertain times? How does it reflect our social values and our borader relationships? Where do we feel the most at home in the world and within ourselves?
Join us for a fascinating class four-part class that explores home as the source of character and destiny; our relationship to nature, our sense of community and belonging, and our refuge in a time of turmoil. And create a document that maps your own definition of sanctuary.
Our premise: Home is where we feel validated and appreciated - and where the soul comes alive.
Description
Home and Character, October 19 - Register
Our childhood memories of home shape who are are and what we value. How do our early experiences of home shape our talents and our interests? How does home activate the imagination and the senses and show us who we are?
Home in Nature, November 16 - Register
How do we find sanctuary in the oceans, mountains, forests, and prairies? What does it mean to be part of a living, breathing planet? We will dialogue with our surroundings, learn how nature calms and soothes us, and what it has to teach us about the dance of creativity and destruction.
Community and Belonging, January 18 - Register
Our sense of home is grounded in our public spaces, in our feeling for our neighbors, our choice of friends, and in the sense of sanctuary we create for one another as we exchange confidences and share our stories. In what places have you felt like you belong?
At Home in the World, February 8 - Register
We can also find home when we travel---suddenly a place we've never been feels both compelling and familiar. In addition, we can find our home in music or sports, in beauty and art. What does home mean to you, when you look beyond four walls?
